A Short Anecdote from Lynn Powis

During the 1970-71 Spur season, one of the two rookies on the team would only need to look at coach Rudy Pilous' hat for a critic on their playing.
"When I got to play, I would come off the ice and ask some of the older players how they thought I did," Lynn Powis, Spur forward in the 1970-71 season, said.  "They would say 'look at Rudy's hat'."
Perhaps to release some nervousness about occasionally playing the rookies, Pilous would take to crumpling his hat while they were on the ice.
The rookies were also sometimes the punchlines needed to humor the team.
"He liked making the older guys laugh by making fun of us," Powis said.
Powis recorded 14 goals and 13 assists in 59 games for the Denver Spurs.  After brief stints in the AHL and CHL, Powis played a season for the Chicago Blackhawks and another for the Kansas City Scouts in the NHL.   He also played in the World Hockey Association for the Calgary Cowboys, Indianapolis Racers and Winnipeg Jets.  He totaled 50 goals and 65 assists in 130 games in the WHA.  He racked up 7 goals and 5 assists in 13 WHA playoff games.
For the last 25 years, Powis has worked as a realtor and presently is with Cherry Creek Realtors in the metro Denver area.
THANKS FOR THE NOTE MR. POWIS!!!!!!!  I appreciate it immensely.
